Do you know what an intelligent house is? Different from the also popular connected home, or automated home, it is a residence that performs all the work for the resident, without the need for specific commands (voice commands, for example) for the processes to be executed.
Imagine that you have just woken up and, while you are getting up and doing your morning hygiene, the bedroom light goes off and the kitchen light turns on, the coffee pot starts preparing your morning coffee, soft music starts playing, and the temperature is perfectly regulated without you using any control or pressing a button.
It sounds like a dream, right? But know this is a scenario that can be real and is already common in some countries. Would you like to know more about intelligent houses and apartments? Then, continue reading this text that VRV explains in detail.
What is an Intelligent House?
As mentioned above, it is a house that performs routine tasks without human intervention, everything is based on automation.
However, for this to happen, specific appliances and electronics are necessary, already adapted to perform the actions in an autonomous way, because they are connected to the internet.
Unfortunately, in Brazil there is not yet a wide variety of intelligent equipment, and most of those available require a lot of investment. However, there are options very close to the “intelligent” ones, which operate with the help of the famous virtual assistants.
Several manufacturers are also importing models of refrigerators, smart TVs, and vacuum cleaners, for example, to supply the growing demand for these devices, so the ease with which you can build your smart home has been increasing.
Meanwhile, models that are not in the ideal device group need some device that brings together the settings of the automated devices installed in the home to function. Some users opt for their own cell phone, when compatible, but others turn to devices such as Amazon Echo, Google Assistant, and Apple’s HomeKit.
How to set up your own smart home
Before purchasing smart products, you need to prepare your home with the spaces and other features that will make your equipment work properly.
We start with the internet connection and a good router. Many users usually consider only the speed of the contracted package, but it is important to keep in mind the quality of the connection, the device that distributes the waves to the house, and the best room to position it in.
Routers are usually located in central points in the house or apartment, and to ensure that all your appliances stay connected it is good to have three or more antennas, and a signal repeater can be used so that there is no interruption of the internet in any room. As for speed, 15 to 20 Mega is sufficient.
Next, you need to worry about the Hub, that is, the device that will control the electronics that automate your home.
As already mentioned, some people use their own smartphones to control their smart home, while others resort to the virtual assistants present in Amazon Echo, Google Assistant and HomeKit, which operate “cascaded” functions or scheduled for certain days and times.
But, the choice of Hub depends on compatibility with the appliances the resident seeks to purchase and personal taste.
Finally, it is to acquire the compatible devices to automate your house or apartment and live in great comfort.
The important thing is to perform a very detailed research to identify the products that, besides being in line with your style, are compatible with your Hub and have internet access. Currently, more and more electronic products for the home have internet access, however, it is always good to ask the seller or check the packaging to be sure.
The most common items to be purchased in Brazil are: smart TVs, stereos, lamps and lighting, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, HVAC systems, security systems, irrigation, motion sensors, doors and gates, among others.
It is worth pointing out that Apple markets some accessories that work exclusively with HomeKit.
Smart homes are synonymous with comfort and modernity. For those who seek practicality and a simpler and more agile daily life, the investment, expensive or not, can be a great solution. The tip is to gradually prepare your environments until you reach the expected scenario.
